“So teach us to number our days, that we may gain a heart of wisdom.” (Psalm 90:12)
It is important for us to understand and live within the limits that God, and in His infinite wisdom that He has set for us, because of one the most significant limits that God has set for us is time.
Within this psalm Moses speaks on the brevity of life and makes a point that “Our days are 70 years, and if by strength they are eighty years, yet their boast is only labor and sorrow; for it is soon cut off, and we fly away.” (Ps. 90:10).
In Job 14:1, he states “Man who is born of a woman is of few days and full of trouble,” which seems to suggest that as we live, we will face a lifetime of troubles and hardships.
The one thing that we cannot control is how much time we have upon this earth, because the minute that we are born we take our place in the line waiting to be called. But while waiting do we just stand idle doing nothing, or do we try to live life the way that God intended?
Psalms 90 teaches us the gospel and confronts us with the fact of life that the biggest problem we have is not anyone else, but it is us. Seek truth and understand, seek the wisdom of God. Seek to be sober-minded and diligent and seek the face of the Lord because it is through Him that wisdom comes.
